Just what friends are for

-

Dear Editor I am writing on behalf of Friends of Langlands Moss (FOLM) to thank the many people who have donated to the boardwalk restoration fund either through our‘Go Fund Me’page which was set up at the beginning of June or directly to ourselves. These donations have raised over £2000.

Thank you to South Lanarkshire Council community fund for a donation of £600 towards replacing the sign which was damaged in the recent fire.

These lectern signs cost in the region of £900 so this donation is a real boost to replacing the missing one.

I would like to thank all who attended the Batman and Mothin BBQ in September.

This is a free event for families but on this occasion the attendees were keen to make donations to the boardwalk fund.

An especially big thank you to the following who contributed to our recent Mad Ferret Folk Concert in the Murray Owen Hall which was very enjoyable.

They are ‘Mad Ferret’ and the gentleman who paid their fee as his donation towards the boardwalk.

The following who all donated raffle prizes – Glencairn Crystal, Lost Lamb Restaurant, South Lanarkshire College, Streets Ahead Hairdressing Salon, Morrisons Stewartfield branch, our Honorary Patron Professor Iain Stewart, Linda Fabiani MSP, several local members of the public and members of FOLM.

Thank you also to Graeme Cumming and ‘Hamish’ who raised £146.

I would like to thank Stuart Mackay and the staff at Morrisons Stewartfield for their help in organising the buffet and the bar, Alan Franklin for our 10th birthday cake, Caroline Belch and Jenny for running the bar, the hall staff at the Murray Owen, local politicians, including Kirsten Robb and Linda Fabiani for support and financial donations, the people who bought tickets and came along and the members of FOLM who worked very hard to make the concert a success and raised over £1100 as well. Thanks to all these activities our boardwalk fund is over £4000.

The estimated cost of repair is £30,000 so there is still a long way to go, but we have applied for grants so fingers crossed we will be fortunate enough to receive them.

If I have missed anyone out, please forgive me. We are really appreciative of the all the support given to us.

It has been an incredibly humbling experience so big thanks to all.

If anyone still wishes to make a donation, they can do so through our ‘Go Fund Me’ page.

Visit www.gofundme.com/27tymng or phone 07765 363822 for further information.

Dear Editor

Throughout breast cancer awareness month in October, there are constant reminders for women to check their breasts.

But as the awareness campaign comes to an end for another year, I urge readers to remember that symptoms can occur at any time.

A third of women aren’t checking their breasts regularly, and a fifth say it’s because they don’t know how.

The good news is, there is no “correct” way.

It’s about making sure you look at and feel your breasts regularly in a way that’s comfortable for you – perhaps in the shower, or while getting dressed.

Everyone’s breasts are different, but if anything isn’t normal for you, get it checked out with your GP.

Most changes may not be cancer, but if there is a problem, reporting the symptoms early can lead to more effective treatment.

So please, don’t forget to keep checking your breasts regularly whatever your age.

And if you have any concerns at all, call Breast Cancer Care free on 0808 800 6000.
