Mixed results from the mini section

-

There were mixed results for East Kilbride Rugby Club’s mini section over the weekend.

The primarry seven squad, short on numbers, suffered disappointment against Strathendrick in their opening game as the Fintry club proved too strong.

Disappointment of a different sort came about in their second game when a 4-1 lead with just minutes remaining was turned into a 4-4 draw by a battling Strathaven.

A short-range effort from Liam Kenny and longer runs from Luca and Leone Galgani saw EK 3-1 up at half-time and when Keir Eadie made it 4-1 entering the final quarter it seemed the home side were home and hosed.

Unfortunately, young minds turned to their post match orange squash just too early and Strathaven took advantage of weak tackling to tie things.

The primary fives suffered due to Strathaven’s player shortage, resulting in three evenly matched contests with Strathendrick, which EK just shaded.

Blair Sidwell set the tone with his defensive work, ably supported by the outstanding Skyla Smith who was unfairly robbed of her first try of the season.

Finally, the P1/2 squad had an impressive 11 wee bodies to rotate as they entertained Strathaven and Strathendrick.

Strathaven struggled a little with their hosts but while Strathendrick were a much tougher proposition, EK ultimately proved too well drilled.

Head Coach Ross McQueen was delighted to give significant game time to new recruits, Joseph Quinn, Chloe White and Aimee MacDonald, with all three giving excellent accounts of themselves.
