Church offers free sessions to help beat addictions
An East Kilbride church is looking to help folk get the best-possible start to 2017 with free sessions aimed at beating addictions.
Trained members of Calderwood Baptist Church are holding an eight-week course designed to help participants tackle habits that can cost physically and financially.
Elaine Allison, who trained with UK charity Christians Against Poverty (CAP) said:“Smoking, drinking, overspending, comfort eating, gambling – whatever it is, we can help.
“Everyone who comes to us has something they want to stop, something that is causing trouble in their lives and their relationships.
“The group has that in common and together, we work on what is causing them to have that repeated behaviour.
“Each person sets their own goals and we have already seen people leave some serious, long-term addictions behind and we’re keen for more people to enjoy that same freedom.”
An information evening is being held for people to find out more.
It takes place at 7pm tomorrow evening at Hunter House Coffee Shop in Calderwood and everyone is welcome. The course begins on February 16. In recent years, Calderwood Baptist Church has established links with the local community and, through its partnership with CAP, the church at Lindsayfield and Claremont Parish Church also offer debt help, a job club and a life skills course alongside them.
Church leader Rev Thomas McNeil said: “We know there are great needs in this community – some hidden, some more obvious – and we can’t sit on the sidelines.”
