One of the town’s leading school bands hopes ceilidh fans will get behind its latest fundraising venture.

Duncanrig Secondary’s concert band – which claimed a gold award and entertainment prize at the National Concert Band Festival on Saturday and second prize in the school category at last week’s Glasgow Music Festival – is hosting a ceilidh with the school’s successful choir in the Murray Owen Hall this Friday. Proceeds will go towards the department’s June trip to Holland, where they will be flying the flag for young Scottish musicians.

The event will feature another of the school’s award winning music groups, the Ceilidh and Folk Group, which also won a silver award at the prestigious music festival.

The school’s head of music, Jane Ramsay, said: “This event is a fantastic opportunity to see our award-winning ceilidh band in action and help to raise money for a really worthwhile cause at the same time.

“Our concert band and choir will be heading for Holland in June, to rehearse and perform at a number of fantastic events. As well as helping the young people develop their musical abilities and build confidence, they’ll be putting young Scottish music talent on the map.

“It promises to be a fantastic night, with some great raffle prizes, a pay bar and brilliant entertainment.”

For tickets, priced at £5, contact the school office on (01355) 588800.
