Thug who disfigured victim is spared jail

A knife thug who permanentl­y disfigured a man in a vicious weapon attack was spared jail.

Shaun McCluskey, 30, previously pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of assaulting a man by punching him on the head and striking him with a knife at an address in Lyttleton, Westwood on April 11 last year.

Not guilty pleas to behaving in a threatenin­g or abusive manner and a separate charge of assaulting his partner by spitting on her face were accepted by the Crown.

At Hamilton Sheriff Court, McCluskey, of Anniversar­y Avenue, was handed down a community payback order as a direct alternativ­e to custody.

Sheriff Vincent Smith placed McCluskey on a two-year supervisio­n order and told him he must carry out 300 hours of unpaid work in the community.

He was also given a restrictio­n of liberty order which means he must remain within his home address between the hours of 7pm and 7am for a period of six months.

McCluskey was also ordered to pay £750 compensati­on to his victim.

Denies court order breach Trial was set for a man accused of being abusive towards his ex-partner.

James McGill, 21, allegedly breached a court order banning him from approachin­g or contacting the woman.

The incident is said to have taken place on May 14 at Cornwall Way in East Kilbride town centre where he shouted, made an abusive remark towards her and gesticulat­ed at her.

McGill, of Linndale Drive, Castlemilk, is alleged to have assaulted a man at Cornwall Way on the same date by repeatedly punching him on the head to his injury, while on bail.

McGill pled not guilty to both charges and was bailed. Trial is set for August 24 with an interim hearing on July 31.

Detained in custody A young Westwood man who allegedly breached an ASBO by causing a disturbanc­e at his home and threatenin­g police was detained in custody.

Declan Paton, 19, is accused of shouting and swearing and engaging in a disturbanc­e with others at his home address in Three Rivers Walk on May 19.

It is claimed he banged on walls and verbally abused and threatened police officers while subject to an anti-social behaviour order and two bail orders.

He denied the charge at Hamilton Sheriff Court and was refused bail. Trial is set for June 20 with an interim hearing on June 8. Drink driving charge A driver has appeared in court on a drink driving charge.

Mark Young, 39, allegedly drove along the A726 with 32 microgramm­es of alcohol in his breath. The legal limit is 22mcg. He is also charged with failing to identify himself to police as being the driver of the car at London Road, Glasgow on the same date.

It is claimed Young, of Cleeves Road, Glasgow had driven the car without a valid insurance policy.

He denied the charges at Hamilton Sheriff Court and was bailed. Trial was set for August 25 with an interim hearing on July 31.

Stole make-up A man who stole make-up from a town centre store will learn his fate next month.

Keiran Bulloch, 28, admitted a charge of shopliftin­g at Boots, The Plaza, on May 18 and denied a charge of stealing booze from Sainsbury’s Olympia on April 21. Both pleas were accepted by the Crown.

Bulloch, of Farm Road, Hamilton, was ordered to complete a drug assessment before sentencing on June 22. Bail was granted.

Accused of assault Being accused of an assault landed Scott Thomson in the dock.

The 49-year-old denied repeatedly striking a man on the head and body at Calderwood Square on March 20. The case was adjourned until July 20 with trial set for August 17. Bail was granted.
