Presenting prizes

I was surprised to see the photo of the SNP’s East Kilbride, Strahaven and Lesmahagow General Election candidate Dr Lisa Cameron present the EK Sports Personality of the Year award in the Wednesday, May 10 paper.

I think it would be more fitting if the award was presented by an individual who has contributed positively to the sporting life of East Kilbride over a lengthy period.

Such a person is Monique McAdams who, over the previous 10 years, has been instrumental in raising the funding for, and project managing the construction of, the K-Park football stadium which is used by many schools.

She is treasurer of Jackton Boxing Club and is found almost every Sunday morning working with children who have additional support needs in her capacity as a qualified football coach.

These are a selection from the many activities Monique has been involved.

All of these jobs have been unpaid and been done to enhance the quality of life for those involved in sport in East Kilbride.

I think it would be appropriate if awards are presented by individuals who have actually some practical experience in sport rather than those whose main contribution is turning up at awards ceremonies. Angus Morrison, East Kilbride
