Store proposal is welcome
Dear Editor,
I refer to the proposed Lidl development at the former Atholl House site in East Kilbride town centre.
Previous correspondence from your regular contributor, Mr Joe Allan, regarding this planning proposal shocked me.
A number of years ago I resided in the Avondale Avenue area and was therefore shocked at Mr Allan’s correspondence.
The idea that a planning proposal was taking access to the top end of Avondale Avenue from the Kingsway defied belief.
And I was astonished that such a proposal could even be registered as a planning application as any form of transport assessment would clearly reject such a proposal.
Out of personal interest, I attended a very positive and informative public consultation.
It turns out that the information in Joe Allan’s letter is total and utter nonsense.
It would seem that the man could only have made this up and certainly not obtained any form of information regarding the planning application.
Not only is there no access from the Kingsway at the top of Avondale Avenue, they are actually blocking up the previous access used by South Lanarkshire Council employees to the car park off Avondale Avenue.
An in-and-out access is clearly detailed from Churchill Avenue and the proposal of a small Lidl supermarket in the corner of the site has great benefits to this side of the town.
I welcome the proposal and am only one of a number of participants at the presentation who were equally positive.
It does concern me that misinformation published by you on behalf of Mr Allan will affect public opinion.
