Jags to tackle The Wood in cup clash

- Paul Thomson

East Kilbride Thistle will travel to Thorniewood United in the third round of the Junior Cup after being paired with the fellow Central District First Division side yesterday.

The Jags beat Super Premier side Girvan 3-2 in the last round and their reward is a trip to Robertson Park on Saturday, November 25, kick-off 1.45pm.

Thorniewood are currently bottom of the Central District First Division with just a point to show for their efforts, while Thistle are 11 points better off in fifth place.

Jags gaffer Alan Paterson said:“It’s a winnable tie.

“On our day we are capable of beating anyone, so we’ll go into it quietly confident, not overly confident.

“Thorniewood have been a bit indifferent this season, so I think we’ll go in as slight favourites given our league position.

“On paper that’s how it looks but the game is not played on paper.

“It’s not a glamorous game with two sides from the same division, but it’s a 50/50 tie and they’ll probably fancy their chances as well.

“They could go and upset the odds just like we did in the last round.”
