Pothole problem is driving locals crazy

Terrible roads are an issue for readers

- Mark Pirie

You’ll have seen them everywhere and now residents in East Kilbride are voicing their concerns about the problem of potholes.

The News took to the streets to find out what people think about the roads in the town.

James McConnell from The Village said: “I know that the snow, rain and ice won’t be helping, but it is a disgrace.

“It’s dangerous because people need to swerve out of their lane to avoid them.”

Aileen Butcher from Greenhills said: “There are plenty that you see around the town now. I’m shocked by quite how bad some bits are.

“The roundabout and road leading to St Vincent’s Primary School is really bad.”

Village man William Guy had concerns about the presence of potholes on main routes through the town.

He said: “On the Kingsway there are some big potholes near the Arnold Clark.

“That is your main route in and out of the town so you’d hope it would be a bit better.”

Joan Cameron from Westwood said she has made complaints to South Lanarkshire Council about a pothole near her home.

She explained: “There is a pothole outside my house that has just been left.

“When the rain falls it isn’t the drivers’ fault that they go into it.

“They just can’t see it. The weather hasn’t been good, which isn’t helping, but it’s dangerous.”
