Paul will be going extra mile

East Kilbride man Paul Logan will tackle the London Marathon in aid of Guide Dogs Scotland – after he was inspired by a friend who has multiple sclerosis.

The 53-year-old offshore worker, from Stewartfield will enter the 26mile race after witnessing first hand the work done by local volunteer Craig Herbert.

Calderwood dad-of-four Craig has lived with multiple sclerosis for 14 years and previously told the News that raising guide dog puppies had changed his life after feeling isolated.

Paul has set himself a fundraising target of £1750.

He said: “I’m excited about the day itself as London is an iconic marathon, which I have applied for on five occasions without success.

“The best part will hopefully be running down Pall Mall with the finish line in sight. I’ve been training up to four times a week, gradually building up the miles. I have run two previous marathons and several half-marathons.

“My only sacrifice is that I have given up certain dangerous sports I do like such as skateboarding and snowboarding. There is too much investment in me now.”

Paul will be collecting donations at Marks and Spencer Kingsgate on Saturday, March 10.

He added: “Fundraising is going very well so far. I work in Norway and my colleagues have been very generous with their donations.”

Guide Dogs community fundraiser Tammy Robinson said: “We are so grateful for Paul’s support. Without people like him, we simply wouldn’t be able to carry out our life-changing work supporting people with sight loss.”
