Apology after years of black mould on walls
A St Leonards man who claimed he had been “abandoned” with mould growing on walls in his flat has received an apology from South Lanarkshire Council.
Keith Marshall says that despite several calls to the local authority, he has been left with the unsightly black mould coming through for the past few years.
The brassed-off Clyde Tower resident states that after being snubbed for so long he decided to paint over the mould last winter.
However, it has now come back worse than ever.
The 57-year-old stated that he had council representatives out as recently as last month but there has been no further progress.
“It’s the smell as well as the actual dampness,” Mr Marshall told the News. “It seems to calm down every summer but just keeps coming back.
“It’s on every outside wall, my living room, my bathroom – everything.”
He added: “It’s been a problem that just won’t go away but nothing is being done no matter how many times I get in touch with them.”
Daniel Lowe, the council’s executive director of housing and technical resources, revealed staff would be carrying out further repairs after a recent examination of Mr Marshall’s home and apologised for the recurrence of the issue.
“The council is aware of an ongoing issue at Mr Marshall’s home and has made a number of repairs in order to resolve the issue, however, these have proven to be unsuccessful,” Mr Lowe said.
“Following the most recent investigations, the council has instructed further repairs to the roof area above Mr Marshall’s home which should solve this problem. The council would like to apologise to Mr Marshall for the inconvenience this issue has caused.” 080218clyde_1
