Rambling on despite weather

-

Claremont Rambling Club were forced to abandon their planned walk in South Ayrshire – but still braved the Arctic weather.

Members were set to walk around the Changue Plantation, however, that was changed at the last minute due to the potential of wet weather.

Instead they decided to embark on a coastal excursion from Girvan towards Turnberry and were relieved to find fairly cloudy but mainly dry conditions.

It seemed that luck was on their side until the very moment that they finished their lunch break when they were hindered by hail and snow.

They decided to call it a day and went back to shelter at the Dowhill tearoom, where a coffee break had been enjoyed earlier.

From there, the bus took the group back to Girvan where members continued to thaw out in the cosy surroundings of the Harbour Bar.

As it was a fairly short walk of around seven miles, all 36 members and visitors stayed together in the one group on this occasion.

The next outing will be this Sunday with a destination of West Balgothrie, Fife.

The next club meeting is on Tuesday, February 27 in the usual venue of Claremont Church, small hall, at 7.30pm.

Chris Bonnington will be the guest speaker and talks about his subject: ‘A Passion for Photography’.
