Cash in on offer of free finance advice

Course can help people get their figures in order

- Nicola Findlay

A church will run free sessions to help people in East Kilbride get on top of their household finances.

Moncreiff Parish Church in Calderwood wants to help the local community to best handle the economic climate.

And so church member Fiona Lamont underwent specialised training from UK charity Christians Against Poverty (CAP).

Now the church is offering a threesession short course aimed at putting the joy back into money by teaching people how to chart their household income and take control of their expenditure.

Ms Lamont, who will be leading the CAP Money course, said: “With households feeling the squeeze on their disposable income, we’ve all got to become a bit savvier about our money to get through these tough times.

“If you know how to save and budget effectively, it can have a hugely positive impact on the whole family.”

Moncreiff is one of more than 1000 churches of differing Christian traditions across the UK who are regularly offering the course as they work together to positively impact the communities around them.

The CAP Money course has been found to be useful for newly-retired people, soon-to-be students, mums dealing with mounting bills, families saving for a wedding and everyone in between.

Ms Lamont added: “We hope that we can help people, quietly and confidently, take control rather than relying on guess work, so that they can plan for the future and weather the storm.”

The first course takes place at Moncreiff Parish Church on Maxwellton Road, starting at 7.30pm on Thursday, March 1.
