Listed bridge repairs continue
Drivers using a popular back road between East Kilbride and Hamilton look set to face more disruption.
South Lanarkshire Council say work to repair the damaged Newhousemill Road bridge will take longer than first thought.
The road, which is used as a short cut by commuters and was shut last month, will remain closed until Friday, April 6.
Council chiefs initially hoped to re-open the road and the listed bridge at the beginning of this month.
The bridge was closed after large chunks of masonry collapsed – leaving a gaping hole at its side.
And repair work was also delayed when it was discovered a high-pressure water main serving thousands of homes and businesses would have to be rerouted by Scottish Water before work could begin on the bridge itself.
A spokesman for the council told the News: “The initial emergency closure order issued was until March 5 but there was an update issued once we had a chance to assess the bridge extending the closure to the April 6.”
