YM stay in touch at the top

-

Patched-up EKYM kept up the chase on Caledonian League Division One (B) leaders Cambria with a 4-1 victory over struggling Bearsden Amateurs.

YM were missing five players but those selected overturned a one-goal deficit to turn in a good all-round performance that merited the three points.

Bearsden had opened the scoring from the penalty spot after 15 minutes but YM were level 10 minutes later.

It was Craig Fry who stepped up to convert the second spot-kick awarded in the match.

Both teams cancelled each other out for long spells with goalmouth chances few and far between and half-time arrived with the game all square.

In the second half, YM’s Craig Tocher seized the initiative when he raced in from wide right, played a one-two with James Cameron, sped past two defenders and pinged a glorious left-foot shot high into the net from 18 yards which gave the keeper no chance.

This goal lifted YM’s performance levels and manager Graeme Robertson experienced one of those inspired substitution moments when he put on striker Connor McCann and he had an immediate effect by scoring two late goals – turning home from crosses by James Cameron – to secure an emphatic triumph.

This Saturday sees YM host Woodhall Thistle on league business at Hamilton Palace.
