Royal baby’s arrival sparks celebrations

Readers have their say on new prince

- Nicola Findlay

The latest Royal arrival sparked worldwide interest with well-wishers camping outside the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London – all eager to catch a glimpse of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s new baby son.

William and Kate introduced their bouncing baby boy Louis Arthur Charles to the world’s media after he was born last Monday at 11.01am weighing 8lbs 7ozs.

He is fifth in line to the throne and is little brother to Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

The News spoke to East Kilbride shoppers and asked if they were excited about the new arrival.

Frank McDonagh from Calderwood said: “I think it’s a good thing. It gives the country a boost and is something happy instead of doom and gloom.”

But his twin George was a little less excited and said: “It’s a piece of nonsense all the carry on, especially all the folk camping outside the hospital.”

East Kilbride’s Angela Gibson said: “It’s nice we have something happy to celebrate – happy news is a pleasant change!”

And Mark Hamilton from Westwood said: “I was born on Charles and Diana’s wedding day. I am not a royalist, though, but if the royalists enjoy waiting to see the baby and everything that goes with it they are not doing any harm.

“A new Royal baby isn’t going to change my life but the main thing is he is healthy.”
