Thug terrorised and abused pregnant ex
Relationship described as “volatile”
A former East Kilbride man has admitted a shocking catalogue of physical and emotional abuse against his ex-partner.
Christopher Fabiani subjected the woman to violence, threats and insults during the course of a “volatile” threeyear relationship, Hamilton Sheriff Court heard.
Fabiani, 34, of Burns Court, Kirkintilloch, East Dunbartonshire admitted assaulting her at their then home in Loch Shin, St Leonards, East Kilbride and elsewhere on various occasions between 2008 and 2010.
He also admitted offences against two subsequent partners while living in Milngavie and Kirkintilloch between 2011 and 2017.
Michael McIntosh, prosecuting, told the court: “There was a pattern of violent, abusive, controlling and harassing behaviour towards women in a domestic context.”
The fiscal said the woman and Fabiani worked together and she was just 18 when he asked her out.
There were no problems at first but Fabiani’s behaviour changed after she became pregnant.
Then she found out he had been cheating on her and when she confronted him, he threw a clothes horse and toys at her.
The 29-year-old was holding their baby, who was just two months old, but this didn’t stop Fabiani thumping her on the back in what his ex described as a “frenzied” attack.
Mr McIntosh said Fabiani assaulted her on one occasion as they drove to Loch Lomond.
“He made her get out of the car and drove off but returned a few minutes later,” the fiscal added. “The violence continued throughout what was a volatile, on-off relationship.
“Fabiani would make derogatory remarks about his partner’s appearance, weight, cooking and ability to do household chores. This took a toll on her health.
“There were regular outbursts and he said everything was her fault.”
The woman, Mr McIntosh added, said she was hearing these things so much “she started to believe them. She felt completely miserable”.
Mr McIntosh said relatives and friends had given statements describing the “terrible” impact of Fabiani’s behaviour on her and her mum had noticed bruising on her arms which the victim put down to “clumsiness” and covered up.
The court also heard of Fabiani’s violence towards a 32-year-old woman whom he began a relationship with in 2009.
When she was eight months pregnant he pushed her to the ground during a row.
She suffered pain and bleeding and was kept in hospital for two nights.
On another occasion, Fabiani punched her, giving her a “significant” black eye which she endured for several weeks.
The Crown accepted Fabiani’s not guilty plea to a charge of assaulting a third partner, a 22-year-old woman, in 2016, but he admitted threatening or abusive behaviour towards her.
He accused her of being unfaithful and ordered her to “get rid of ” the baby she was expecting then bombarded her with text messages when they split up.
Sheriff Ray Small called for background reports and deferred sentence until May 24.
Fabiani had his bail continued.
