Reunion dinner on menu

-

A football reunion dinner will be held in the town this weekend, bringing together old team-mates, friends and adversaries from yesteryear.

Former Scotland manager Craig Brown will be the guest of honour at the Ballerup Hall on Saturday evening and around 300 guests from around the world are expected to attend.

The idea spawned from a Facebook page set up by event organiser Bobby Jamieson, called East Kilbride Boys League and Beyond, who wanted to reunite old friends and raise money for charity in the process.

Proceeds from the evening will be donated to East Kilbride Dementia Carers and Kilbryde Hospice.

Bobby, who is flying in from Canada for the event, said:“Many former well known professionals will be attending as well as a chunk of the EK Thistle Scottish Cup winning team from 1983.

“We have boys coming from all over the world, including myself in Canada, USA, Spain, Lanzarote, Cyprus, Jersey, Romania, Hong Kong, Philippines, United Arab Emirates and all over Scotland and England.

“I started a page on Facebook to attract old friends and we now have over 400 members. A steady supply of old photos has been contributed to the page, which has stimulated conversation and old memories and the interest level in this event is staggering - everyone’s talking about it.

“The event is intended to celebrate football in EK at all levels and everyone is looking forward to it, as well as helping raise money for charity.”
