The achievements o f t h e i n s pi r at i o n a l folk behind East K i l b r i d e ’s b i g g e s t cancer fundraiser we r e r e c o g n i s e d i n Holyrood this week.
In a parliamentary motion, East Kilbride SNP MSP Linda Fabiani acknowledged the i nspi r at i onal work of t he organisers of Relay for Life as the event marks its 21st anniversary.
The 24- hour f undraiser which raises thousands of pounds each year for Cancer Research UK is the longest running relay of its kind in Scotland’s history.
The motion, which achieved cross-party s upport, reads : “That t he Parliament congratulates the organisers of East Kilbride’s annual 24- hour Relay f or Life on its 21st anniversary; notes that the 2018 event will take place at the John Wright Sports Centre on June 15-16 to raise money for Cancer Research UK; understands that this remarkable achievement makes it the longest-running such relay in Scotland; praises the hard work of the organisers, volunteers and fundraisers in bringing the community together as part of the wider Relay f or Li f e movement, which aims to commemorate loved ones who have died and t o celebrate t he l i ves of the sur vivors who are at t he heart of t he i nitiative; hopes that the participants enjoy a sunny day, and looks forward to the next 21 years and beyond of fundraising for Cancer Research UK, as it continues with its pioneering work.”
