The Rural held their AGM on their final meeting of the current session and included presentati­on of flower show trophies.

President Janet Foster welcomed members and judges of the competitio­ns, Mary Reid and Margaret Hamilton from Chapelton.

Reports were read out and approved by the members who agreed it has been a busy and successful year.

Honorary president Frances Smith accepted the chair for the election of office bearers and committee.

There are no changes from last year. Honorary Presidents – Mrs J Fleming & Mrs F Smith; President – Janet Foster; Vice-president – Sheila Moore; Treasurer – Marion Russell; Secretary – Elizabeth Frame. Committee – Margaret Law, Mima Struthers, Marion Miller, Marion Armour, Irene French, Alison Brisbane, Isobel Marshall.

Mrs J Fleming presented the trophies. Honorary president’s trophy: Plain gingerbrea­d – Margaret Law; Gardening Scotland rhubarb and ginger jam – Francis Smith. Baking: Tray bake – Janet Foster; DK Article – Margaret Law; Seniors craft – Margaret Law; Preserves: Lemon curd – Marion Miller. Handicraft­s: Decorated wine bottle – Marion Russell; Floral posy in a tea cup – Elizabeth Moore. Points Winner for the year – Marion Russell.

President Janet gave the vote of thanks and presented flowers to the judges and the honorary presidents.

The evening finished with a lovely supper and the raffle. The next meeting will take place on Thursday, September 13 at 7.30pm. All Welcome.
