Championsh­ip medals haul for St Kenneth’s pupils

St Kenneth’s Primary School’s athletics squad maintained their impressive record in track and field events by claiming a magnificen­t medal haul at the East Kilbride Championsh­ips.

The team achieved 16 individual medals as well as three sets of team gold and one set of silver medals in the 4x100m relays at the John Wright Sports Centre.

As a result, 23 out of 35 runners have qualified for the South Lanarkshir­e Track and Field Championsh­ips, which takes place on Friday, June 20 at the John Cumming Stadium in Carluke.

In the 100m sprint, the results were as follows: Madeleine Hopkins (P7) gold; Tito Olelakan (P7) silver; Cait Minster (P7) bronze; Aidan Fitzpatric­k (P7) bronze; Jay Sharp (P6) bronze.

For the 600m, medallists were: Millie Aitken (P7) gold; Rachel Davidson (P7) silver; Nathan Yardley (P7) silver; Ryan Byrne (P6) gold; Ryan McNamara (P6) silver; Tyler Kelly (P6) bronze.

Michael Coulter (P6) took gold in the javelin, while Grace Law (P7) won bronze.

In the long jump Madeleine Hopkins (P7) won gold, Holly Murdoch (P7) earned a bronze medal, as did Tyler Kelly (P6).

Finally, the winning relay teams were: P6 Boys 4 x 100m sprint – gold for Ryan Byrne, Ryan McNamara, Jay Sharp and Michael Lasley; P6 Girls 4x100m – gold for Tyler Kelly, Daisy Blake, Hannah Coutts and Ava Colquhoun.

P7 Boys 4x100m – silver for Callum Wright, Sean Thomson, Jacob Shaw and Aidan Fitzpatric­k; P7 Girls 4x100m – gold for Cait Minster, Tito Olelakan, Emma Louise O’Neill and Madeleine Hopkins.
