Drivers flouting law

Improvements will now be made, including new clearer and illuminated signs and road markings.
East Mains Community Council chair Bill Arthur said: “We most certainly welcome any improvement to the one-way system at Maxwell Drive – it is long overdue.
“The community council has been trying to get its point across and, finally, our concerns over safety in this area have finally been recognised.”
Eask Kilbride Central North councillor Joe Fagan said: “I am delighted that action will now be taken on the one-way system at Maxwell Drive. Not a day goes by without a breach of the system and enough really is enough.
“All road users, not just motorists but pedestrians too, are put at risk when the one-way system is misused.
“East Mains Community Council are to be commended for their persistence on this issue.”
South Lanarkshire Council’s head of roads and transportation services Gordon Mackay said: “Following the concerns raised we undertook a review of the current arrangements.
“We have taken the opportunity to improve the signing and will relocate or replace some existing signing, erect new signage in the vicinity of the public house and lay “no entry” and arrow road markings as well as directly light some of the signs.
“In addition we have liaised with Police Scotland and requested additional enforcement action.”
