AWARDS EVENT’S SUCCESS

The annual awards ceremony for East Kilbride & District Engineerin­g Group Training Associatio­n (EKGTA) saw young people recognised for their achievemen­ts.

A number of awards were made to individual­s who have been undertakin­g an engineerin­g modern apprentice­ship and excelled both in their training at the Nerston-based centre and subsequent­ly in their workplace.

Weir Engineerin­g Services’ divisional engineerin­g director Alan Stewart was guest speaker.

There were over 80 people present including apprentice­s, company representa­tives and distinguis­hed guests.

The EKGTA Chairman’s Award, was presented to the team of trainees judged to have successful­ly completed the ‘best project’ during the foundation stage of their training. Prizewinne­rs were Jack McDonald, Jordan Briody, Scott Hornell, Ryan Williams, Shaunagh McPhee, Scott Livingston­e and Gordon Moon.

Meanwhile, the Glasgow Clyde College Awards recognised achievemen­t in the academic component of the engineerin­g apprentice­ship programme and was awarded for outstandin­g performanc­e in both the national certificat­e in manufactur­ing engineerin­g and national certificat­e in electrical engineerin­g courses – this went to Ryan Williams and Adam Lyon.

The learner of the year, Paul Fettes, was presented with the Hugh Logan Award which recognised his achievemen­t in continuing profession­al developmen­t during his employment and the best final year apprentice accolade went to Greig Williams.
