Carolyn Denham from Greenhills has launched a petition aimed at forcing Marks & Spencer’s bosses to make a U-turn on a proposal to close their store in East Kilbride’s town centre.

Online News readers had their say as Carolyn’s petition topped an impressive 5000 signatures.

John Edwards said:“Instead of signing a petition, maybe if enough folk went in to the store and actually bought stuff it might do well enough to justify keeping its doors open.

“It’s a private commercial business not a community centre.”

Euan Macdonald said:“It’s clearly not making money or they wouldn’t be closing it.

“A petition won’t make any difference to that. If you want to keep it open then speak with your wallet.”

Isabel Braidwood said:“This is [a] worrying time for East Kilbride town centre because Malpin, Poundworld plus Marks and Spencer will disappear from the centre.”
