An Eaglesham pub has ruffled the drinks industry’s feathers – after scooping a coveted awards double.

The Swan Inn has been named Sunday Mail Pub of the Year and Country Pub of the Year at this year’s Scottish Bar and Pub Awards.

The popular village bar and restaurant’s staff are bursting with pride as they celebrate their newfound title as the nation’s best pub.

Owner Marco Sarao recently took over the business but admitted he didn’t believe they could win.

He said: “I and the rest of the team, collectively, feel absolutely ecstatic after winning the awards.

“We knew we were nominated for the two awards but didn’t have the faith that we should have as we were up against the biggest and the best pubs from all over Scotland.

“We’re extremely proud of what the pub has achieved and can’t thank our supporters, who took the time to vote for us, enough.”

Marco dedicated the bar’s success to his staff and customers and added: “I think the deciding factors in our winning of these awards were our devoted customers and our diligent, courteous and generous staff who have been trained to provide exceptional service.

“The pub itself is a casual, fun and family friendly place. It has a great atmosphere and you’re always guaranteed a bit of banter when you’re there. To receive these awards is really quite phenomenal.

“Our ultimate aim as a business is to give back to the community. We’d like to consider ourselves as playing a role in putting Eaglesham back on the map.”

Swan Inn manager Heather Lister told our sister paper, the Sunday Mail: “The last 18 months have been a wonderful whirlwind.

“New owners have transformed the Swan into a bustling bar and restaurant.”

Cheers! Swan Inn staff celebrate their Sunday Mail Pub of the Year success
