The eminent Scottish actor Andrew Cruickshank was to officially open the Village Theatre.
Mr Cruikshank, who starred in many famous productions, was best remembered for his characterisation of the lovable Dr Cameron in the popular TV series, Dr Finlay’s Casebook. He unveiled a special plaque.
Over 100 employees at the National Engineering Laboratory in the Kelvin claimed that the paintwork on their cars had been damaged by soot.
A list was handed to officials of the district council who had been carrying out tests.
Folk in the town were glued to STV to support its own Miss EK, Catherine Jane Harvie, who was in the finals of Miss STV.
