On cue for great season

-

The 35th year of the East Kilbride Pool League will start in earnest on Tuesday when teams get their league campaign underway.

A great season lies ahead, and reigning champions, The Entertainers, will start as clear favourites. The key challenges are expected to come from Andy Mason’s strengthening Top Guns team looking to improve on last year’s third place, and from cup winners and last year’s runners up Club 72.

A marker was set in the opening round of cup fixtures with Club 72 narrowly beating the Entertainers 8-6, with Graeme Leggate winning the clinching frame. Other teams looking to make an impact are Greenhills and cup specialists, the Jokers, who produced a dominant 11-3 win over the Top Guns in the opening round.

The Jaegermeisters have been rebranded the Assassins, and will look to build on a strong first season and consolidate a top six place. There’s also a new team and venue to the league with the Calderwood Inn on board.

Thoughts will turn to individual events this weekend, with the 2018 EK Singles running on September 8-9 in the Greenhills Bar. An intriguing draw has delivered a loaded top half including previous winners Ian‘Livvy’ Livingstone, Lee‘The Jackal’Miller and Iain‘The Man Mountain’Wilson alongside reigning joint EKPL players of the year Stu Robertson and Jack Stewart.

EKPL are always keen to welcome new members. If you wish to join, contact David Pickup at drannpickup@ hotmail.co.uk for more details.
