Selkirk resignation costs Kilby points

-

Selkirk announced their resignation from the Lowland League last week – costing East Kilbride three points and Craig Malcolm a hat-trick.

Malcolm was the top scorer in the league with nine goals following his goal in Wednesday night’s 2-0 win over Stirling Uni.

However, at a board meeting on Monday the league confirmed all three teams who played Selkirk – EK, Civil Service and Gretna – have had their results expunged. So Kilby’s 10-0 win on the opening day has been wiped as well as the goals scored. But Malcolm isn’t caring...too much. The striker, now on six goals, said: “It’s one of these things. The goals are nice and losing a hat-trick isn’t great, but winning games is more important.

“Okay, we’ve lost three points as well but it gives us a game in hand over some of the other teams and we are still in a strong position. It’s not about how many goals I score this season.

“There’s only one aim for me and that’s to get East Kilbride promoted.

“I don’t care who scores the goals. I know it might not look like that on the park sometimes, but it genuinely doesn’t bother me.”

Kilby are still top of the table and Malcolm insists it will be defending champions Spartans, who moved up to second as a result of Strollers losing three points, that will pose the biggest threat.

He added:“Spartans, similar to EK last year, have had a sticky start after the Betfred Cup games, but they are the team to beat.

“They are the champions and they will come strong again. You could see in the IRN-BRU Cup game between us [which EK won on penalties], there wasn’t much between us.”
