60 years of marriage
An East Kilbride couple are celebrating 60 years of wedded bliss.
William and Jessie Pollock’s sparkling diamond wedding anniversary was very much a family affair.
For relatives and friends joined them at their home in The Murray for what was a very special occasion.
And it’s fair to say East Kilbride has played a key role in their lives given William’s job.
The happy couple made sure they celebrated in style on Thursday, September 6.
William and Jessie first met at a Strathaven Town Hall dance.
And – while they built a life together – William helped build East Kilbride as a member of the new town development corporation staff.
Jessie had her own career as a comptometer operator at a Glasgow bank – a vital role in any financial institution in precomputer days
The couple have a son, Billy, named after his father, who both lives and works in Chelmsford, Essex.
South Lanarkshire provost Ian McAllan and Deputy Lieutenant of Lanarkshire Margaret Morton joined William and Jessie on their diamond wedding anniversary to help them celebrate their special day.
Provost McAllan presented the couple with flowers, a framed scroll and a bottle of whisky on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council.
Deputy Lieutenant Morton attended in her role as the Queen’s representative.
She gave the couple a card with a congratulatory message from Buckingham Palace.
Provost McAllan told the News this week: “William and Jessie have had a long and happy life together and shared the joy of family, love and companionship at their 60th anniversary celebration.”
