Defeats for Jags and YM

-

EK Thistle Amateurs were knocked off the top of the Strathclyde Saturday Morning League after a 3-0 defeat to East Dumbartonshire.

After a 100 per cent start to the campaign, the Jags took on Shire in a top of the table clash but they were brought crashing back to earth.

Thistle started well with Thomas Treacy coming close, however this was about all they could muster as Shire took control.

Jags keeper Chris Treacy kept the score level with several smart stops, but Shire broke the deadlock just before the break.

Sadly for Thistle, the second half didn’t get any better and Shire doubled their lead with a wonder goal from 30 yards out into the top corner. As Jags pushed for a goal, they were caught on the break and Shire netted a third.

Thistle will look to bounce back at home to Ravenscraig this weekend.

• EKYM’s Caledonian League side were

left frustrated when opponents Stirling University confirmed that they were unable to fulfil the league fixture, owing to a lack of players. This Saturday YM hope to play their

first round West Of Scotland Cup tie at MLS Leeds in Coatbridge, kick off 3pm.

Meanwhile, their Greater Glasgow Premier League side suffered a 5-2 defeat to league leaders Calderglen, with Ross Anderson and Adam MacDonald the scorers. This Saturday they entertain Barrhill in the West Cup. Finally,YM’s 21s lost 4-2 to Campsie.

Sam Convy scored from the penalty spot and Nathan McLelland also netted.
