Acorn Park residents moved to new homes

Support for families

- Andrea Lambrou

Vulnerable pensioners removed from a nursing home axed over serious care concerns have been rehomed.

South Lanarkshire Council confirmed yesterday that residents of Acorn Park are now settling into alternative care facilities after a sheriff shut down the under-fire care home.

The local authority made assurances that they are working with relatives to ensure a smooth transition period.

Acorn Park was a privately-run home which looked after up to 38 elderly people with physical disabilities and dementia.

The News told last week how Dumbarton Sheriff Court issued private care providers Bute House Limited with an interim suspension order following a closure order application by the Care Inspectorate.

It was a move the watchdog said was “not taken lightly” but was necessary to protect the safety of residents.

The suspension of the care service’s registration took effect yesterday. Serious concerns were raised over residents’ care following an unannounced inspection last month.

The College Milton-based facility has long been criticised for unacceptable levels of care and was threatened with closure by the social care watchdog four years ago.

However, it was the new management’s failure to improve following recommendations made in a first inspection in May that led to court action.

A council spokesman said: “All residents have been removed from Acorn Park care home. We are working with families during the resettlement period to ensure the transition is as smooth as possible.”

Acorn Park’s August inspection report will be made available next month.
