Auldhouse WIgetgen on Older & Active help

- Nicola Findlay

The first meeting of Auldhouse Women’s Institute for 2018-19 was held in the Alastair McCoist Complex.

Apologies were received from members still on holiday or were recovering from injuries due to falls.

Matters of business included entries to local shows during the summer when the WI was second at Chapelton Show while some of its members won individual awards.

Members also discussed the national conference which will take place in the fair city of Perth.

Auldhouse will be represented by its president and secretary who will vote on motions on their behalf.

The group were then given some insight into the workings of Older & Active in East Kilbride — a local charity which operates in the town centre.

Not only do they hire out mobility scooters and wheelchairs to visitors to the centre but they also offer a minibus service for those who need to be picked up from home.

Other services include podiatry, aromatherapy, acupuncture and other ancillary health services, a healthy walk for those able to do a short circuit, craft and Tai Chi classes and a regular café service for attendees as well as a library.

These services are offered at regular intervals and the group was welcomed any time members were at the centre.

They were also given a leaflet with details of opening times and when the classes were available.

The competition of a holiday photograph was won by Linda Mullen with Kathleen Claudin runner-up.

Why not go along and join the group at their next meeting on Tuesday, October 2? A talk entitled ‘The Life of Eleanor Roosevelt’ will be given that day.

New members always welcome. Contact Marion on (01355) 242698 or Aileen (01355) 571807 for more details.
