East Kilbride YM’s Caledonian and Greater Glasgow Premier League teams recorded resounding victories in the first round of the West of Scotland Cup.

The ‘Caley’ side travelled to Coatbridge to face MLS Leeds from the Stirling and District League and thrashed them 9-0.

In the opening minutes, Cammy McCulloch’s excellent through ball split the Leeds defence and found Connor McCann racing down the right touchline. His low cross into the area was turned into the net by Anthony Penman at the far post.

McCann added a second goal soon after when put through by Jordan Fletcher and McCann was then hauled down in the box for Dean Arroll to score YM’s third goal from the spot.

The influence of McCann continued when, at the end of the first half, he scored the fourth goal with a cheeky back heel after the keeper had dropped a cross in the area.

In the second half Mikey Carroll scored a quick fire hat trick and further goals from John Griffen, whose volley is a goal of the season contender, and Sean Kelly completed the rout.

In eight competitive matches so far this season, YM have scored an incredible 66 goals.

This Saturday YM are back on league business when they visit Viewfield Rovers at Lochwinnoch, kick off 2pm.

Meanwhile, the GGPL side defeated Barrhill Amateurs 6-3 in their West tie with Ross Anderson grabbing a brace and Declan Rennie, Bradley Robertson, Jack Ferguson and Murray McClure also finding the net.

In the quarter final of the GGPL league cup, YM face a local derby with EKRR on September 29.
