Woods at his best ...with no sleep

Kilby winger reckons new-born son has inspired him

“Maybe the wee one has got something to do with it because this is probably the best football I’ve played here.

“Flynn is five weeks old now and I’ve scored a few goals over the last few weeks, so maybe sub-consciously it’s having an effect.

“I’m certainly not doing anything differently other than getting less sleep – so maybe that’s what’s causing it.

“I’m in the side most weeks, I’m enjoying my football and playing with good players certainly helps.

“Before the game, the gaffer said he was leaving me out, so when I came on I wanted to keep up the good work and it was great to get the goal.”

Either side of half-time man of the match Matt McGinley had to be at his best in the Kilby goal, first producing a fine stop down low from Brian Morgan and then tipping Josh Watt’s strike over the bar after the break.

That proved crucial as EK took the lead in 57 minutes. Jamie Longworth slipped McNeil through on goal and he curled the ball into the bottom corner from 18 yards.

Three minutes from time, Woods collected the ball just inside the Bo’ness half and raced through on goal, showing great composure to pick his spot and fire the ball into the far corner.

After watching his side reach the third round, EK boss Brian Kerr said: “It was a good, professional performance from the boys. We made some changes and a few players have put themselves in the reckoning for the Spartans game [on Saturday].

“Woodsy is very direct and when he’s not scoring goals he’s working tirelessly in the final third to create chances, so I’m delighted for him.

“I have to say as well that although Matty didn’t have much to do in the game, he’s come up with two big saves for us.”
