Big-hearted bowlers raise hospice cash

In­door club hand over £500 to lo­cal char­ity

East Kil­bride In­door Bowl­ing Club held their an­nual prize­giv­ing re­cently – and helped raise funds for Kil­bryde Hospice in the process.

On Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 20 the club’s awards cer­e­mony was fol­lowed by a race night, rais­ing a fan­tas­tic sum of £500 for the lo­cal char­ity.

A great night was had by all.

Club mem­bers have still been tak­ing to the greens for com­pet­i­tive ac­tion.

In the Gents League, East Kil­bride beat Pais­ley 83-61 to leave them in mid-ta­ble.

In the se­niors league EK suf­fered a 114-37 de­feat to Ar­drossan.

The se­niors have had a tough start to the cam­paign and three straight de­feats leaves them bot­tom of the ta­ble.

Club duo Laura Hall and Maria McGraw, fell in the sec­ond round of the Ladies 2-Bowls Pairs com­pe­ti­tion where they lost 2-0 to Ayr, while in the Gents’ event Christo­pher McGeough and David Mac­Don­ald were beaten 2-1 in the first round by Auchin­leck.

Else­where, Greg McLeish qual­i­fied for the Un­der 17 Scot­tish Young Bowlers event.

Greg will now play David Ea­ton of Blan­tyre In­door Bowl­ing Club in the fi­nal on Novem­ber 10 at the De­war Cen­tre, Perth – an event which will be tele­vised on the BBC.
