Poverty workshop

-

An East Kilbride group raising awareness of and challenging poverty in the town is holding an event next month.

Following October’s successful town centre stall for Challenge Poverty Week, Challenge Poverty in EK is inviting anyone keen on developing longer-term action to join a workshop taking place at the lower hall, Old Parish Church, on Wednesday, December 5 from 7.30pm.

The group is a collection of local groups and individuals committed to working together to tackle poverty.

Members include local food banks, Back to School Bank EK, Swap and Save One Stop Shop (sasoss), churches and community development workers.

Members have also drafted a list of anti-poverty support services and gathered information to see where more action is needed.

Kirsten Robb from the group said: “It’s totally unacceptable that an average of one in four people in EK live in poverty but working together action can be taken to address this.

“Come along and share what you or your group are doing to tackle poverty.”

Book for this free event via eventbrite or join the Challenge Poverty in EK Facebook group for more information.
