Construction began on the new Whitehills residential area where the development corporation proposed to build 748 houses by 1983. It followed the awarding of a £1.4 million contract to build the first 94 houses to George Wilson (Stonehouse) Ltd, which had been a contracting firm in a number of the corporation’s various developments. It was to be built in phases, with the second to go out to tender in the New Year.
People in East Kilbride were faced with long walks again following the breakdown in talks aimed at ending a bus curfew.
Talks between management and union representatives ended in stalemate as crews were set to withdraw their labour again after claims they had been attacked.
