Con­struc­tion be­gan on the new White­hills res­i­den­tial area where the de­vel­op­ment cor­po­ra­tion pro­posed to build 748 houses by 1983. It fol­lowed the award­ing of a £1.4 mil­lion con­tract to build the first 94 houses to Ge­orge Wil­son (Stone­house) Ltd, which had been a con­tract­ing firm in a num­ber of the cor­po­ra­tion’s var­i­ous de­vel­op­ments. It was to be built in phases, with the sec­ond to go out to ten­der in the New Year.

Peo­ple in East Kil­bride were faced with long walks again fol­low­ing the break­down in talks aimed at end­ing a bus cur­few.

Talks be­tween man­age­ment and union rep­re­sen­ta­tives ended in stale­mate as crews were set to with­draw their labour again af­ter claims they had been at­tacked.
