Community stalwart Brian Doig has been recognised in Parliament for 30 years’ service caring for people with dementia.
Dr Lisa Cameron MP highlighted the good work of the coordinator of East Kilbride Dementia Carers Group in an Early Day Motion at Westminster.
The charity provides support for people with dementia, and their families, at their day care centre in Greenhills.
Dr Cameron’s motion reads: “That this House commends the work of Mr Brian Doig, Pine Crescent, East Kilbride who has tirelessly helped East Kilbride Dementia Carers Group for nearly three decades; praises the wide range of jobs, from raising funds for the group to general maintenance and administrative duties, that Brian undertakes on a daily basis; thanks Brian and the other volunteers for all the aid they provide to countless dementia suffers throughout the local area; and further thanks Brian for all his hard work and the enthusiasm that he has for his work.”
The MP for East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow, added: “The work that Brian does and his focus on volunteering, especially for East Kilbride Dementia Carers Group, deserves a lot of praise.”
A delighted Brian told the News: “I’m very honoured and flattered by Dr Lisa Cameron’s comments, and to be honest, a bit shocked.
“I absolutely love the work I do and have always seen it as a privilege to serve the local community.
“Quite simply, though, I could not do it if it was not for a whole host of other people – volunteers and staff who make my work possible.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank and commend them in turn, as this recognition belongs to the whole team at Pine Crescent as much as it does me.”
