Claremont ramblers end year on a high

- Edith Findlay

Claremont Rambling Club covered nine miles from Strathyre to Callander in the last walk of 2018 – with a lunch stop at the Loch Lubnaig Cabins.

The weather was light rain all day, however, despite the dampness, a smile was not far from members’ faces with the certain knowledge of a welcome free drink at the end.

The alternative walk was a circular, five-and-a-half miles from Callander and although sun was lacking throughout the day, there were beautiful views reflecting off the water, of Loch Lubnaig, all along the way.

A morning coffee stop was in Dobbies, Stirling and the social hour was in the Riverside Inn, Callander.

The next outing will be on Wednesday, January 2, which is the annual local New Year walk.

For a change, this will not be to Auldhouse and the meeting place at the start will be the shops on Old Coach Road starting at 10.30 am Prompt (the last pick-up point for all walks).

There is no requirement to book on; just turn up.

Soup and sandwiches have been arranged at the White Cart, Busby and from there members can either return to East Kilbride by train, bus or shanks’s pony.

On Sunday, January 13, the club has scheduled an outing with the destination being the Greenock Cut.

Bookings are taken Tuesday to Friday prior to the walk. Member-only bookings will be accepted on Tuesday and Wednesday prior to the walk with Thursday and Friday allocated to members and visitors.

As before, bookings must be made no later than 4pm on the Friday.

The next club night will be on Tuesday, January 8, at Claremont Church Hall’s small hall from 7.30pm.

The speaker on this evening will be Lesley McIlhagger whose subject will be a tour of St Andrews, Fife.

Individuals wishing to join either walks or club nights can be assured of a warm and friendly welcome.
