Perfect 10 for hockey ladies

-

Uddingston ........ 0 East Kilbride ...... 3

A perfect start at Uddingston set East Kilbride Ladies Hockey Club on the road to a perfect 10 in the league this season.

In a top of the table clash on Saturday, EK’s first XI faced their biggest league threat – and took the wind out of the challenger’s sails with an immediate goal that helped them maintain their 100 percent record in the league after 10 games.

From the off EK mounted an attack which was pushed back to the half way line. But, just as it looked like Sheona Hutchison had no one to thread the ball through to in the final third, up popped Kate Kinloch-Anderson to collect the pass and get round the keeper.

Hutchison and KinlochAnderson are quite the partnership, having netted the bulk of EK’s goals so far this year.

Hutchison scored a lovely solo effort only to have it chopped off as the whistle had blown for a short corner, but she got her goal five minutes later just in front of goal.

Hutchison made it three, a lovely team effort which started with a clearance from the EK defence, 10 minutes before half time.

Uddingston were lively enough and it was a competitive match, but they couldn’t find a way through until the second period when they drew two saves from keeper Clair Ormond.

Their first short corner came 10 minutes from the end, but it was well defended and EK can tick off another solid win.

Wingers Fiona Williamson and Charlotte Martin were named as player of the match and opposition player of the match respectively for their busy and effective contributions.

This weekend East Kilbride play their final West District League match of the year ahead of the festive shutdown. They host struggling Garnock on Saturday.

Meanwhile, in Division Three EK’s second string went down 3-1 to Troon away, leaving them fourth in the table.

Kate Johnson got the goal and Julia Whittle enjoyed a captain’s performance as she was named player of the match.

The team will close out the year away to GHK 2’s on Saturday.
