CRASH HORROR

Boy, 15, struck by heavy goods lorry

- Andrea Lambrou

A teenage boy remained in a critical condition in hospital yesterday after being hit by an HGV.

The 15-year-old was struck by the lorry on Saturday night in Strathaven and taken to University Hospital Hairmyres in East Kilbride for treatment.

The vehicle did not stop – but officers believe the driver did not realise that he had hit someone.

A police investigation is underway with an appeal issued this week for witnesses and dashcam footage.

Both the driver and the HGV involved have since been traced but no arrest has been made.

Avondale and Stonehouse councillor Margaret Cooper told the News: “My thoughts and prayers are with the boy’s family. I hope he makes a full recovery.”

PresentationThe A tribute to a much-loved member of an East Kilbride club raised nearly £2500.

The Bambinos Big Bash in memory of Craig Morrison was a huge success.

And Craig’s family and friends recently went along to the EK Hangout Club to hand over the cheque.

Lynn Morrison from the club said:“We would like to say a huge thank you to the Morrison/Wilson families for once again organising their annual Bambinos Big Bash in memory of Craig.

“Sadly, Craig passed away a year ago, aged only 23, through complications of his condition Sturge Weber Syndrome.

“He was a much-loved member of our club and was known for his love of thinking up wonderful ideas that the club could arrange and organise.

“Craig’s family and friends came along to the club and presented us with a cheque for £2478 that was raised at this year’s Big Bash. What an amazing legacy for Craig.”

Ms Morrison added:“Thanks go to all for the hard work involved in raising such a fantastic sum of money.

“To commemorate Craig, all his friends and family attached personal messages to balloons to remember all the happy times spent with him.

“Craig will always be a part of our club and we will never forget our treasured memories with our unique and optimistic friend.”
