United reach last 16

-

The last 16 of the Scottish Cup beckons for East Kilbride United after they hit Styx Amateurs for six on Saturday.

United had to come from behind to win 6-3 after enduring a disastrous start.

They fell 2-0 behind in the opening minutes and only some last-ditch defending prevented a bigger deficit.

Ten minutes before the half-time whistle United finally got a foothold in the game and pulled one back when a lovely ball through from Stephen Cairney found Mark Knotts and he slotted home.

There was still time in the half for United to find an equaliser and Cairney popped up to grab it just moments later.

After some encouraging words at half time, EK came flying out the traps in the second half, scoring two quick fire goals to make it 4-2.

The third goal came from a pinpoint Greg Barlas cross where Cairney again popped up, this time with a perfectly executed bicycle kick, to edge EK in front.

A Paul Keys corner then found Jordan Barlas to net his 13th goal of the season and open up a two-goal lead.

Styx pulled one back when some sloppy defending allowed them to get one on one with the keeper.

But when William Stalker’s cross was met at the back post by Andrew Shiels, he turned the ball into the net to settle any nerves.

Stalker then sealed it with the sixth goal late on.
