East Kilbride MP Adam Ingram paid tribute to everyone involved in the Irish Peace Process after being awarded the county’s most prestigious honours. He was made a Privy Councillor in the New Year’s Honours list, a title more prized than a Knighthood among MPs and Ministers. It was given in recognition of his efforts at achieving peace in Ulster through his role as Minister of State at the Northern Ireland office.
The festive shopping season saw a spending frenzy among shoppers in East Kilbride as cash machine withdrawals soared. Over £5million was taken from the Royal Bank of Scotland cash machines in the town as shoppers’ spending easily dwarfed last year’s total.
Police in East Kilbride were continuing to clamp down on motoring offences even through the festive season was fizzling out. Figures showed a mixed response to the police efforts. Drink driving was down but speeding was up.
