Diamond couple celebrate 60 years
East Kilbride couple Robert and Elizabeth Conn celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss over Christmas.
The diamond pair had already been married for 12 years when they moved to East Kilbride in 1970, before putting down roots and raising a family.
Celebrating their anniversary on December 20, the couple both lived in Uddingston when they met at the Trocadero Dance Hall in Hamilton.
At that time Robert was in the Royal Navy and Margaret worked at Glasgow’s famous Templeton carpet factory.
They married at their local church in 1958 and shortly after Robert was posted overseas in the crew of HMS Ark Royal.
After his Naval service Robert joined British Airways working at Glasgow Airport, meanwhile Margaret began work as a receptionist at Alison Lea Medical Centre in Calderwood with both remaining with these employers until they retired.
Robert who is 81 and Margaret, 80, have three daughters – June, Elizabeth and Margaret – seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Provost of South Lanarkshire Ian McAllan and Deputy Lieutenant of Lanarkshire Clare Gallagher helped the couple celebrate, left.
