Skipper’s joy as EK tighten grip on top spot

- PAUL THOMSON

Craig Malcolm reckons East Kilbride’s winning habit will be a “kick in the teeth” to their title rivals.

The Kilby skipper bagged a brace as the Lowland League leaders beat Cumbernauld Colts 3-0 to extend their lead at the summit to six points.

Nearest rivals BSC Glasgow, who have played a game more, and Kelty Hearts both drew at the weekend as EK racked up their 10th consecutive win in all competitions.

Malcolm said: “Ten wins at any level is a great achievement. Credit to all the boys for staying professional.

“The gaffer had us in on days over Christmas and New Year when we didn’t want to train to be honest, but we are getting the rewards for that now.

“Teams will be seeing us winning every week and it will be a kick in the teeth for them, especially if they are coming off the pitch after dropping points.

“If they see that we are winning game after game, it will hopefully knock the stuffing out of them.”

Kilby welcome struggling Gretna to K-Park this weekend ahead of a huge Scottish Cup fourth round clash away to Inverness on January 19.

Malcolm added: “We just need to keep winning games and if we keep doing that we’ll be in a position where the league is ours to lose.

“We look like we are getting better every week.”
