Surely not One of our best performing stories online last week was the suggestion of a possible earthquake in The Murray.

Many of our readers poured scorn over the suggestion, with a number cracking jokes over the alleged incident.

However, Sharon Cooper wrote: “I did hear strange noises during night and thought it was boiler, but it wasn’t on – this was Westwood area.”

What the story did do was jog the memory of a number of our readers, who recalled a previous earthquake in East Kilbride.

On Facebook, Tina Rae wrote: “There was an earthquake in the Westwood about 40 years ago. Dishes fell off shelves etc.

“Honestly, I remember it. I went into work and the Westwood people were talking about it.”

Elsewhere, rail passengers rejoiced at the promise of additional seats on services to East Kilbride.

Tom McLarnon simply wrote: “About time.”

However, Debbie Forster Stevenson hinted at a potential problem, posting: “Wonder where all these extra passengers will park.”

And Barry Muir agreed, saying the move sounded “good, but a problem for car park”.
