EK firm offer up apprenticeships

- FRAER WILSON

Quartztec Europe has expanded its workforce by taking on two new glassblower apprentices.

The Langlands Place manufacturer has taken on the recruits and will train them in the art of consistent craft work.

That will see the pair put through their paces in order to meet the brand’s world class exacting standards.

Apprentices Ceri Paterson and Sean Cullen both join the business as they look to forge their careers in the glassblowing industry. That follows time spent working in different industries.

Ceri, 25, has a background in metal welding and is excited to get started in her new role.

She said: “Joining Quartztec Europe is a great first step in my career in the industry and I can’t wait to build my experience and become a highly skilled glass blower.”

She is joined by Sean, also 25, who has been working as a community football coach for Motherwell FC.

Talking about his change in carrer, Sean said: “I chose to be a glassblower because it’s completely different to any other trade.

“It’s going to be a great skill to have as I progress through my career and I’m excited to reach the highest level of expertise possible here with Quartztec Europe.”

Both have now started their training and operations director Ron Jackman is delighted to welcome them to the team.

He told the News: “Employing young people from the local area has always been an important part of our work here at Quartztec Europe.

“We’re delighted to welcome Ceri and Sean to the team here at our East Kilbride manufacturing hub and seeing their hunger to learn and develop has us excited to continue producing some of the most advanced fabricated Quartzware used in the industry today.”

Quartztec Europe was formerly Multi-lab Quartztec until October 2015, before which it was a Heraeus flag ship site. The company has a current work force of 43 employees.
