Funding boost for hospice

-

An East Kilbride building society donated nearly £5000 to help make in-patient rooms at a hospice more comfortable for those receiving care.

Nationwide gave £4800 funding to Kilbryde Hospice to buy muchneeded fans for all 12 in-patient rooms.

The hospice, based in the grounds of Hairmyres Hospital, heavily relies on local business and the community getting on board with fundraising and providing funding to allow it to continue to provide specialist palliative care to patients and their families.

Andy Smart, branch manager, said:“At Nationwide our involvement in our local community is core to our values and we are delighted to be able to make the donation to allow Kilbryde Hospice to purchase a fan for each patient’s room.

“We look forward to continuing to support the hospice in further activities over the coming months.”

Meanwhile, pupils and staff from Hunter Primary took part in a sponsored Sunflower Walk to raise funds for the hospice and remember a much-loved parent.

As well as the Sunflower Walk the school did various other fundraising activities and they were delighted to be able to present Kilbryde Hospice, which is based in the grounds of Hairmyres Hospital, with a cheque for £1384.

Mrs Linda Gardner, head teacher at Hunter Primary School, said:“It was so lovely that so many people came together to support the hospice in memory of a much-loved parent and member of the Parent Council, Tracy O’Brien.”

Claire Crawford, Kilbryde Hospice Community Fundraiser, added:“It’s great to have the wonderful support of Hunter Primary School.

“Thank you so much to all of the staff, pupils and families from the school.”
