Respects paid to golf boss:
Brian, 59, passed away after short cancer battle
Tributes have been paid to a much-loved husband, dad and grandad who has lost his short battle with cancer.
Course manager at East Kilbride Golf Club, Brian Bolland, was just 59.
He leaves behind wife Margaret, son Brian and daughter Kirsty. Brian’s family told the News they had been left “devastated” by his “sudden loss”.
They told how he had just started chemotherapy for his cancer, but there were complications.
His family added: “He was a loving husband, father and grandfather whose presence and loving support will be deeply missed by everyone in the family.
“He will be missed by all who knew him or worked with him in his lifetime. He has been taken from us too soon.”
The popular Greenhills man joined East Kilbride Golf Club in 1991 as head greenkeeper and was responsible for managing many major improvements at the course.
During Brian’s tenure at East Kilbride Golf Club six greens were reconstructed to United States Golf Association specification, drainage was laid helping make the course playable all year round, teeing grounds were extended and more recently the area around the third green was remodelled.
These projects were all carried out in-house in conjunction with the dayto-day upkeep of the course.
Fiona Dryburgh, treasurer of East Kilbride Golf Club, told the News: “Brian’s expertise and knowledge of our course will be sadly missed.
“One of his lasting legacies will be the staff he mentored over the years, several of whom have moved on to become head men in their own right.
“A big character who took pride in his work and enjoyed life, he will be sorely missed by all those who knew and worked with him in various capacities over the years.
“Our thoughts are with his wife Margaret, son Brian and daughter Kirsty and all his family at this sad time.”
