TREE group showcase

The team behind the upkeep of Eaglesham’s tidy appearance have been showing off their work this week.
The Regeneration of Eaglesham’s Environment (TREE) group is run by retirees who fundraise to support their efforts.
They work hard throughout the year to improve the visual and environmental landscape of the village and have been given a helping hand over the last two years with two large grants.
And this week they welcomed Councillor Alan Lafferty to show him what they had achieved with their funding boost.
Last year, TREE installed a new bridge over the burn in The Orry, replacing an unsightly ‘temporary’ bridge which had stood there for many years and was unsuitable for disabled access.
The group also installed two wrought iron arches at the hedges at the Eglinton Arms offering access there.
They also refurbished an old turnstile and marker stone in the area.
So far this year they have put in place modern planters to offer growth and colour throughout the village, replacing dated planters that were well past their best and had become horribly overgrown.
These eye-catching spots add colour to the area.
Councillor Lafferty was delighted at seeing the funding put to such effective use, enhancing the environment for the whole community. He was also very impressed to hear that the TREE Committee had won first prize for their float in the Eaglesham Fair Parade with a float made of 14,000 paper flowers.
The group received their grants from the East Renfrewshire Renewable Energy (windfarm) and AOE Windfarm funds, with regular support from the Eglinton Arms Hotel.
